Cheltenham School District announces the following support staff position(s) for the 2024-2025 school year
TITLE: Facilities Technician - HVAC Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director and Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance
GRADE/TIER: G13-G11 (New Hires - G13 Only)
Location: District Wide
JOB SUMMARY: This is a District-Wide position focused on maintaining all HVAC equipment to ensure compliance with local codes and to ensure a safe, operational environment conducive to learning. This includes repairs, installation, replacement and test pipes, fittings, HVAC/Plumbing equipment and preventative maintenance, hot water heaters, low pressure and high pressure steam heating systems using hand tools and testing instruments. Repair and replace pumps, packing, mechanical seals, bearing, and equipment as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the supervisor.
- Ensures all work orders/service calls are completed in the safest possible manner. Utilizes all available and necessary Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Proactively request additional safety equipment as needed to continue work is the safest possible manner. Observes all safety regulations and policies.
- Carries out daily work orders, building systems and preventative maintenance as assigned through the online work order system SchoolDude. Responds to these requests in a timely manner.
- Represents Cheltenham School District, as such employee must be cordial, respectful, helpful, and cooperative in attitude and manner to the community, students, and other staff members. Employee will adhere to uniform and other grooming requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair at an advanced level the following.
Boiler Systems- Pumps- Chillers- Air Handling Units- Electronic and pneumatic valve controls- Heat Pumps- Air Conditioners- Steam Valves- Emergency Generators.
- Repair and maintain chillers, air handlers and associated units.
- Repair and maintain equipment steam production/distribution systems.
- Operate and troubleshoot Building Management Systems (BMS) program and components, change and update program.
- Able to function with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Promptly report all accidents to supervisor.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned such as General Maintenance, snow removal, and assist outside contractors.
- Overtime may be required due to the severity of the situation which will be determined by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1. High School, G.E.D or trade school diploma.
2. Five Years of field experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC Systems in educational, residential, or medical environments preferred. 3. Certified and licensed for CFC refrigerant recovery, and boiler license. 4. Must possess sufficient knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and facility disciplines. 5. Proficiency in completing work orders using online work order system. 6. Knowledge and understanding of local and national sanitation/building codes. 7. Ability to read complex blueprints and schematic diagrams. 8. Ability to work with others and as part of a team. 9. Ability to work in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. 10. Must maintain a valid PA driver's license. 11. Must be knowledgeable of safety regulations and procedures for working with asbestos.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Some bending and twisting of the body required
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing 75 lbs. or more
- Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl
- Ability to mostly sit with some walking, standing or moving throughout the district
- Ability to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday
SENSORY ABILITIES: Visual acuity and auditory acuity
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May be exposed to hazardous materials. Must be able to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (100 degrees or more). Subject to physical hazards, including conditions that may affect the respiratory system and/or skin.
TEMPERAMENT: Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruption. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented. Able to receive oral communication and convey details or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
