Cheltenham School District in Elkins Park, Montgomery County, PA, a diverse suburban school district of 4,700 students and 862 employees, is seeking a Facilities Technician-HVAC Specialist.

 

 

TITLE:   Plumber/Boiler Mechanic                  

             

REPORTS TO:  Director and Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance                                        

GRADE/TIER:  G13-G11 (New Hires - G13 Only)

 

Location:  Administration Building & District Wide

 

JOB SUMMARY:    Preserve the integrity of the heating plant and mechanical system. Service and maintain the district’s boilers. Service and maintain the plumbing
systems. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel and other administrative matters affecting the district.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Service and maintain plumbing equipment as needed for repair and functionality for buildings in the school district.
  2. Service and maintain boilers as needed for repair and functionality for buildings in the school district.
  3. Repair and replace plumbing and boiler system components as needed.
  4. Perform testing on plumbing and boiler system equipment; adjust and repair as needed.
  5. Maintain equipment records including site locations.
  6. Report deficiencies and problems that are found with the equipment.
  7. Assist with services during emergencies.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Support Services and Second Shift Supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Five (5) years plumbing and boiler/heating experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent necessary
  • Master Plumber license required
  • Additional training preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of codes
  • Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • FBI Criminal History Record
  • Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Ability to reach above and below the waist
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
  • Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
  • Ability to lift and/or move supplies weighing 75 lbs or more
  • Ability to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday

 

SENSORY ABILITIES: Visual acuity and auditory acuity

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials

 

TEMPERAMENT: 

  • Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented
  • Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

 

COGNITIVE ABILITY:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to read and write
  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to exercise good judgment

 

SPECIFIC SKILLS: 

Must possess the ability to operate trucks, tractors, maintenance vehicles and equipment

 

LICENSE: Must possess valid PA driver’s license
